How Changing Your Attitude Can Change Your life!

For some people, holiday depression is not about brain chemistry or blood sugar. It is about their crappy attitude.

Current scientific knowledge supports the idea that a person’s positive or hopeful attitude and beliefs may be key factors to their physical and emotional well being and recovery from illness and injury.

In a study of asthmatic patients, scientists found that they could produce dilation of the airways by telling people they were inhaling a bronchodilator. Research has also shown that the power of suggestion, when offered to a person in a particular psychological state, with certain belief systems and offered in a certain tone with certain words, can help reduce or eliminate pain.

Based on what is known about the mind and how it may respond to certain suggestions research indicates that the most effective therapeutic program should include; constant attention from the patient’s support system including caring affection, encouragement, a sense of hope, healing touch, and other positive interpersonal support combined with a reduction of stress. This and a reduction in uncertainty about what treatment to take or what the outcome will be may assist in the release of endorphins and other positive body chemicals.
