How To Use Mastermind Groups…
For achieving and sustaining success
I’m a huge fan of mastermind groups. I could not have become as successful as I have in business, personal relationships, and even in my marriage without mastermind groups.
A mastermind group is a peer-to-peer mentoring group used to help members solve their problems with input and advice from the other group members.
Cooperation and collaboration through the use of mastermind groups was one of the laws of success that Hill learned studying successful Americans including Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Cornelius Vanderbilt and others.
The concept of peer-to-peer mentoring was coined in 1925 by author Napoleon Hill and described in more detail in his 1937 book Think and Grow Rich. In his books, Hill discussed the idea of the Master Mind, which referred to two or more people coming together in harmony to solve problems.
The benefits of having such a collaborative supportive mastermind group are plenty:
- First, one would have to know what gives them pleasure beyond mere short-term gratification.
- You have a group of people available to help you succeed. You get the benefit of differing perspectives, input, and feedback.
- Your mastermind team can bring resources and connections to the table you might not have had on your own.
- You receive accountability and inspiration from the group, thus enabling you to maintain focus in achieving your goals.
Napoleon Hill even went so far as to say there was a mystical quality created when a mastermind group was formed. He said: “No two minds ever come together without, thereby, creating a third, invisible, intangible force which may be likened to a third mind.”
Your ability to create things in the world is increased by having that invisible “third mind” of the mastermind group. Clearly is understood the concept of synergy.
Within all of my seminars, we speak of the importance of forming Support Triangles.
1. I Seek out individuals with a positive attitude who are also seeking to improve the quality of their lives, are good listeners, and who seem to have some basic common sense.
2. Introspect but still connect. Realize that many friends (and strangers who will become your friends) are truly and earnestly eager to help you at this time, even if they have never discussed such a subject with you. Don’t be a loner. Reach out to others.
3. When you connect with individuals with a positive attitude who are also seeking to improve the quality of their lives, share the concept of a Support Triangle without pinning them down to joining. Mention how common the concept is in most societies. Speak of the simplicity of the work required –just an hour or two once per week, or per month.
4. Keep in touch with the members of your Support Triangle. As the one who has formed the Triangle, it is your responsibility to keep your two partners interested until they are firmly established in the rhythm of the designer “solution-based thinking”.
5. Every member of your triangle should be encouraged to form other triangles. Your own leadership qualities can be developed and expanded by taking on the responsibility of encouraging them to do so. Bring this matter to their attention and provide whatever help and inspiration you can to support their efforts. It is only in this way that the “garden of visionary seeds” that you are planting can grow and spread from support triangle to support triangle with little effort.
6. Remember, if you wish, you can have more than one support triangle, even many.
7. As the result of your work within your Support Network expands, it should become increasingly easy for you and the members of your triangle to experience miracles of abundance, love, freedom, and self-actualization. These miracles were always there but have become visible through the magnifying power of light, love, and the will-to-good invoked through the daily work of Support Triangles. The personal example of a life lived in the right relationship with others is inspiring and infectious.
Takeaway
Creating or joining a mastermind group will help you to maximize your potential, and achieve success at the lowest possible cost.

About my stories on Medium
Most of my Medium stories, when related to natural healing. self-improvement, life lessons, mental health, and Eastern Philosophy are anchored into the concept of Applied Game Theory. This idea explores how and why people make certain choices, including decisions related to their health, well-being, and self-awareness.
Researchers into game theory have won over twenty Noble Prizes. The movie “A Beautiful Mind” is about the life of John Nash, one of the pioneers in game theory. Of course, the most sophisticated competitive and strategic game in existence is the Chinese game of Go. Learn more about the powerful tool, game theory, for self-improvement. I explain it in the Medium.com article below.
The article was written so that a 12-year-old can easily understand and apply the simple 3 step system. The article also includes a short video interview of me with Jim Selman a pioneer and thought leader in leadership, business success, and innovation.
